Palmetto Trail Celebrates National Trails Day with Major Announcement
June 5, 2025 – This Saturday, June 7, marks National Trails Day, and the Palmetto Trail is set to make headlines with exciting news. The nonprofit organization, in collaboration with the American Hiking Society, is celebrating the recent adoption of a House Resolution designating June 2025 as South Carolina Trails Month.
To commemorate this occasion, Palmetto Trail will host three guided hikes across various regions of South Carolina and its annual Trail to Table dinner along the scenic Peak to Prosperity Passage. The resolution, passed by the South Carolina General Assembly, encourages residents to explore the state’s abundant trails and highlights the numerous health, learning, and social benefits associated with outdoor activities.
Trail officials expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming support of legislators who champion trail awareness and preservation. National Trails Day, originally established by the American Hiking Society, aims to foster community connection and inspire individuals to give back to local trails.
Hikes will kick off at 9:00 a.m. at specified GPS coordinates, which are available on the American Hiking Society’s website. Each guided hike will be led by a regional trail coordinator, allowing participants to experience the diverse beauty of South Carolina’s landscape. Registration for the hikes can also be completed through the website.
The Palmetto Trail is renowned as South Carolina’s largest and most prominent trail, spanning from the picturesque Intercoastal Waterway in Charleston County to the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains in Oconee County. Its recognition as one of only 16 cross-state trails in the nation further emphasizes its importance to both residents and visitors alike.
