Heroic Rescue at Edison Gas Station: Good Samaritan Saves Driver Moments Before Fire
Edison, NJ – A Good Samaritan is being celebrated for his bravery after rescuing a 75-year-old man from a burning car at a Costco gas station on Tuesday. Charles Parry, 49, witnessed a vehicle careening across the parking lot, smashing into obstacles before crashing into a PetSmart sign. “I thought maybe he was upset because he wasn’t first in line,” Parry recounted. However, the situation escalated quickly as smoke began billowing from the car.
Without hesitation, Parry rushed to the vehicle while calling 911. He struggled to free the incapacitated driver, who had lost control due to a medical episode caused by a neurodegenerative disorder. With the flames intensifying, Parry managed to pull the man from the car moments before it erupted into flames, dragging him to safety just as the inferno engulfed the wreckage.
Edison Police Chief Thomas Bryan confirmed the driver had been treated and released from the hospital. Parry, who had recently lost 50 pounds and embraced a fitness lifestyle, humbly stated that he simply did what anyone would have in that situation. "I don’t know how this would have gone about a year ago," he remarked.
