Rep. Josh Gottheimer Intensifies Campaign Ahead of New Jersey Gubernatorial Primary
Bergen County, NJ – As the 2025 New Jersey gubernatorial primary approaches, Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) is amplifying his campaign, centering on the pressing issue of affordability in the state. Known for its high cost of living, New Jersey needs innovative solutions, and Gottheimer is stepping forward with a comprehensive platform.
During a recent appearance at CareOne assisted living facility in Paramus, Gottheimer outlined his key proposals, including a nearly 15% cut in property taxes, rent rebates for tenants, financial bonuses for seniors, and income tax reductions for the middle class.
Despite New Jersey’s traditionally blue landscape, the state has become more competitive in recent elections. Gottheimer’s political stance includes a blend of progressive policies and a focus on bipartisanship. He controversially supported the Laken Riley Act, which sanctions the detention of undocumented immigrants for minor offenses, while condemning the aggressive immigration tactics of the previous Trump administration. "Ordering the roundup of innocent undocumented people… is totally unacceptable," he stated, while also emphasizing that violent criminals do not belong in the state.
Gottheimer’s campaign rhetoric aims to position himself as a formidable opponent against Donald Trump. “You wanna work with Jersey, I’ll be with you. You mess with Jersey, I’m gonna mess with you,” he asserts in campaign messaging, addressing concerns over attacks on social security, healthcare, and educational funding.
With six Democrats and five Republicans vying for the governor’s seat, Gottheimer is one of the primary candidates to watch. Eyewitness News will continue profiling candidates leading up to the election.
