New Jersey Man Arrested by CBP on Manslaughter Charges

Press Release: U.S. Customs Officers Arrest Fugitive at Buffalo Border Crossing

Buffalo, NY – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Port of Buffalo successfully apprehended a New Jersey man with an active felony warrant at the Rainbow Bridge border crossing on May 26.

Malakai McRay, a 22-year-old U.S. citizen, was traveling on a commercial bus when he was flagged during a routine examination. Officers conducted a National Crime Information Center (NCIC) check, revealing an active warrant from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office for negligent manslaughter with a weapon, a second-degree felony.

"CBP officers work diligently to identify and intercept wanted criminals through vigilance and thorough research," stated Buffalo Port Director Gaetano Cordone. "Our strong partnerships with local law enforcement are crucial to bringing fugitives to justice."

After verifying the warrant, McRay was taken to a secondary inspection area for further processing and then handed over to the New York State Police as a Fugitive from Justice. He is currently in the custody of the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office and awaits extradition back to New Jersey to face the charges.
