Countdown to FIFA World Cup Begins with Excitement in New Jersey
As the countdown to the FIFA World Cup 2026 marks its one-year milestone, excitement fills the air in New Jersey, where MetLife Stadium will host eight matches, starting June 13, 2026. A celebratory event at Liberty State Park in Jersey City on Wednesday highlighted the community’s enthusiasm.
Liberty State Park will serve as the site for the official FIFA World Cup Fan Fest for the New York/New Jersey region, featuring live music, culinary delights, engaging games, and 22 large screens set to accommodate around 45,000 fans. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy described the festivity as “beyond words,” emphasizing the importance of the event for the local community. Additional neighborhood fan fests are planned across New York City and New Jersey.
Officials anticipate more than a million visitors will flock to the region during the tournament, many of whom may not attend the matches. Consequently, transit strategies are being deliberated to ensure smooth commuting while minimizing disruptions for local residents. Alex Lasry, CEO of the New York/New Jersey World Cup Host Committee, assured the community that plans are in place to address transit needs effectively.
New York Giants legend and World Cup Host Committee ambassador, Victor Cruz, expressed his excitement, saying, “It’s going to be a thrilling experience at MetLife Stadium with a new sport and fan base.” Many local fans, including young soccer enthusiasts like Salma El Sayed, have voiced their eagerness, highlighting the opportunity for New Jersey to shine on the global stage.
As the world prepares for soccer’s grandest event, New Jersey stands at the forefront of this historical moment, ready to welcome millions and host vibrant festivities that celebrate the beautiful game.
