Thunder Show Grit in NBA Finals Against Pacers

The Oklahoma City Thunder advanced to the NBA Finals with a remarkable season characterized by a maximum losing streak of just two games. Despite facing the Indiana Pacers, who threatened to gain a commanding 3-1 lead in the Finals, the Thunder rallied to win Game 4, 111-104, evening the series at 2-2. Coach Mark Daigneault praised the win as a “blood-and-guts” effort, particularly as Indiana entered the game with a strong record in clutch situations.

In the fourth quarter, Oklahoma City outscored Indiana by 14 points, stunning a team known for its late-game resilience. The Pacers, who had been formidable in tight playoff scenarios, struggled offensively, making no 3-pointers and shooting 27.8% in that crucial period. Leading the Thunder was MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who scored 35 points and delivered 15 of his team’s final 16 points down the stretch, overcoming an uncharacteristic slow start. Oklahoma City’s Jalen Williams contributed 27 points, while Chet Holmgren, despite injuries, added 14 points and 15 rebounds.

The Thunder’s success came despite an uncharacteristic night from beyond the arc, making only three 3-pointers, their fewest all season. They compensated by excelling at the free-throw line, where they outpaced the Pacers significantly. Adjustments to the starting lineup, including the return of center Isaiah Hartenstein and a strategic breather for Gilgeous-Alexander, helped maintain competitive performance. Although the Pacers led for most of the second half, Oklahoma City regained control late in the game, marking a significant turnaround. Indiana’s coach Rick Carlisle expressed disappointment but maintained hope for the remaining games in the series, with Game 5 set for Monday in Oklahoma City.
