DHS Announces $10K Reward for Escapees from New Jersey Immigration Facility

DHS Offers $10,000 Reward for Escapees from Newark Immigration Detention Center

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the capture of four men who escaped from Delaney Hall Detention Facility in Newark, New Jersey, on Thursday evening. The incident was marked by chaos both inside and outside the facility, with Newark Mayor Ras Baraka noting reports of a potential uprising.

Protests erupted as demonstrators outside the facility locked arms and confronted barricades. In response, law enforcement deployed pepper spray, leading to minor injuries among protesters, although no vehicles struck anyone in the crowd.

Tensions inside the detention center reportedly escalated due to a delayed meal service, culminating in violence. Attorney Mustafa Cetin, representing one of the detainees, stated that some inmates became aggressive. They managed to push down a weak outer wall to escape.

With legal access to the facility suddenly blocked, attorneys were unable to contact their clients. Araceli Argueta from the American Friends Service Committee highlighted these disruptions, underlining concerns about detainee access to legal representation.

DHS has identified the escapees as individuals undocumented in the U.S. and provided details about their criminal backgrounds. Franklin Norberto Bautista-Reyes faces serious charges, including aggravated assault. Joel Enrique Sandoval-Lopez has prior arrests for handgun possession and aggravated assault, while Joan Sebastian Castaneda-Lozada was arrested for burglary and theft. Lastly, Andres Pineda-Mogollon also faces burglary charges.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the escapees’ whereabouts to contact the ICE tip line at 866-347-2423. The situation remains fluid as law enforcement continues its search for the fugitives.
