Amazon has announced that it is increasing wages for its hourly warehouse workers in the U.S., with an average starting pay of over $22 an hour compared to the previous average of $20.50 an hour. In addition, Amazon is adding a new perk for employees by including a Prime subscription in their benefit package starting early next year. This subscription typically costs $140 a year and provides members with benefits such as fast shipping and video streaming.
Furthermore, Amazon has also raised wages for its contracted delivery drivers to roughly $22 an hour as part of a $2.1 billion investment into its third-party logistics program. These wage increases come as Amazon prepares for the upcoming peak holiday shopping season.
As part of its preparations, Amazon has announced plans to hold a two-day shopping event similar to Prime Day on October 8-9. This event, which will be the third of its kind, is expected to attract a large number of online shoppers looking for discounts and deals.
