A pilot died in a mid-air collision between two single-engine planes in Southern California. The incident occurred near Lancaster in northern Los Angeles County around 1 p.m. on Sunday. Both planes, a Nanchang CJ-6 and a Yakovlev Yak-52, were used for aerobatics and hobby flights and only the two pilots were on board at the time. The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the crash and one pilot was pronounced dead upon arrival, while the other pilot reported no injuries. The planes landed in different locations in Lancaster. The Yak-52 plane is a Soviet-era aircraft owned by Fight’s On! LLC, and the Nanchang CJ-6 is a Chinese military aircraft. The pilots have not been identified and it is unclear what caused the collision. The FAA and NTSB will be investigating the crash.
