New Jersey Celebrates Milestone of Over 200,000 Electric Vehicle Registrations

The Murphy administration in New Jersey announced a milestone achievement in the state’s clean energy efforts, surpassing the 200,000 electric vehicle registration mark. With over 208,000 battery-electric and plug-in hybrid EVs registered with the Motor Vehicle Commission, the state has seen a significant increase in EV adoption over the past two years.

Governor Phil Murphy highlighted the state’s efforts in implementing progressive incentive programs like Charge Up New Jersey, NJZIP, and expanding the charging infrastructure to support the growing demand for electric vehicles. New Jersey now boasts more than 4,000 publicly accessible charging ports, a significant increase from just 150 in 2016.

While some groups have raised concerns about meeting EV mandates and consumer preferences, New Jersey remains committed to supporting the continued growth of electric vehicles and transitioning towards a zero-emission future. The state’s market share of EV sales currently exceeds the national average, indicating a positive trend towards cleaner transportation options.
