Injured young seal discovered on New Jersey shore making progress in recovery


A male grey seal pup was rescued after being found injured and stranded on a Brigantine beach. The pup had multiple lacerations, swelling, and injuries to its front flippers, shoulders, and mouth. Weighing 50.2 pounds, it was transported to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center’s rehabilitation facility for treatment. The pup is now recovering well and eating independently, with ongoing medical care and monitoring provided by the center’s staff. The center is currently treating twelve seals and credits public reports for enabling timely rescues. They urge continued support during the busy spring stranding season.
