East Brunswick Achieves “Film Ready” Certification, Boosting Local Economy

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — East Brunswick has officially earned a "Film Ready" certification from the New Jersey Motion Picture & Television Commission, marking a significant milestone for the township as a potential filming destination. The announcement was shared with Mayor Brad Cohen in a letter from Jon Crowley, Executive Director of the Commission, who expressed enthusiasm for the certification.

Mayor Cohen welcomed the news, emphasizing the township’s diverse landscapes—from urban settings to picturesque forests—making it appealing for studios and networks. “This designation opens up exciting opportunities for local businesses and the economy,” he stated.

The certification process faced delays last summer due to an extensive review but aims to create a streamlined approach for filmmakers. East Brunswick has been on a revitalization journey for nearly eight years, particularly focusing on Route 18, to attract new businesses and enhance community engagement in the arts.

Cohen expressed hope that this new status will draw diverse film and television productions, ultimately positioning East Brunswick as a cultural hub. The Commission plans to announce this significant achievement in July, with celebrations planned to include the community in this transition.
